Use Customize Start Menu to arrange destinations and commands, rather than editing the installed program. Choose items by function: opening a folder, expanding a submenu, or launching an application. Keep a backup so experimental changes do not erase a working layout.
What to do
- Open the menu settings and select the style you intend to keep. Style changes can affect the way customized destinations appear.
- In Customize Start Menu, inspect the existing items and drag them into the order you need. Begin with one item so its effect is easy to recognize.
- Open the edited item properties and check its target and display behavior. A folder opened as a link is not the same interaction as an expanding folder menu.
- Apply the change and navigate to the item with both mouse and keyboard. Export the configuration after the arrangement works.
Check the result
Check the actual destination, not just the visible label. A correctly named Documents item can still point to an obsolete or inaccessible path.
Limits & precautions
A menu entry does not grant permission to its target. A network folder may still require a connection and valid credentials.
Questions & answers
Can I reorder items?
Yes. The project FAQ describes dragging items in Customize Start Menu.
Does removing a menu item delete its folder?
Changing a menu entry is separate from deleting the underlying folder. Read the action before confirming it.
